The Monaco Grand Prix. It was always a distant dream for me. An item on the wish list that I might have ticked off one day if all was well. When our friends from Moravia Yachting asked if I would like to join them on the Le Panorama terrace to experience the entire F1 weekend with VIP hospitality, I didn’t have to make a difficult decision.
In fact, ten days later I was on the plane to Nice and after a short taxi ride we reached Monaco. I’ve seen so many photos and videos of this place that it felt surreal to actually see it all up close, let alone on Grand Prix weekend. Of course I started looking around town for supercars and after spotting a member’s Bugatti Veyron and an Aston Martin V12 Speedster on the first afternoon I knew there would be plenty of toys to play with over the next 48 hours would. After a brief visit to the stunning Casino Square we had an early evening before tomorrow’s excitement.
Saturday – Qualification Day. We made our way straight to Le Panorama to meet Kurt, Chief Commercial Officer at Moravia Yachting, and his friendly team and check out our ‘base’ for the weekend. It’s important to mention that we weren’t the only ones from SCD. Moravia has invited select members who have expressed an interest in yacht charter, either via updating their profile in the members area, via our recent lifestyle survey or through a member of the SCD team.
As we make our way up the terasse , we were greeted with a glass of champagne and a warm welcome from Kurt, Julia and some of their customers who had arrived a few minutes earlier. As we walked onto the balcony we had an incredible view of the track that we had for the Grand Prix. Located just above Turn 1, you could clearly see cars exiting the tunnel and through the chicane as well as heading up the hill past Turn 1 and towards the casino. The sun shone all day and we watched the F3 and F2 races followed by F1 qualifying in the afternoon. Moravia provided us with food and drink with a delicious buffet lunch, appetizers, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and much more.
That evening we were invited to what is being described as the most exclusive Grand Prix lifestyle experience, a party venue that watches F1 racing around the globe – the Amber Lounge. Our invitation came from Ellie Sax and partner/DJ Harry, who you can catch live at the SCD Secret Meet in July, and it was deadly entertainment after a fun first day. We imagined what the atmosphere would be like tomorrow after the race and hoped that we might even get an invite to the after party! Spoiler alert – we did, and partying with Esteban Ocon and George Russel at a nightclub was as spectacular as you can imagine. Check out the reel here .
Sunday – race day. With a ride in a new Bentley Monaco Flying Spur, we reached Le Panorama early. The first racing event of the day was the Porsche Supercup. Hearing the dismantled GT3 cars bouncing off the walls was incredible – especially in the first few laps when they were so close together. After a few relaxing hours on the sunny terrace, it was soon time for the big race. Crowds were gathering everywhere, drinks in hand and as Crofty put it, “Lights out and let’s go”! Although the first half was fairly uneventful, I couldn’t help but take it all in – we were actually here, watching the GP up close. In Monaco! Then the rain came and the race got a bit more chaotic. spins, offs,
So my first experience at the Monaco Grand Prix could not have been better. Moravia Yachting really has pulled out all the stops and if the attention to detail on the yachts is even remotely matched with the attention to detail on F1 hospitality, prospective charterers are in extremely safe hands. I can’t thank Kurt and the team enough for inviting me and for looking after me, my partner Amber and members Tim, Mac and Andy throughout the trip. Monaco absolutely blew our minds and it sparked my interest in the Formula 1 championship as a whole. Hopefully Moravia will consider us for future opportunities of a similar nature.
